About us

 

WAM (The Johannesburg WA Mozart Choir) was created in 2015 when the Johannesburg German Choir and the Pro Cantare Choir amalgamated. Our aim is to make good music from various genres in a safe, supportive environment. We are a diverse group of all ages and interests and have performed works by the great classical masters, light opera as well as more popular songs.

CAREL-JOHAN DE GRAAFF

CONDUCTOR

 

Carel-Johann de Graaff made his concert debut at the tender age of 8 with the then SABC Orchestra in a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, K414. He subsequently attended the National School of the Arts and has studied under Sini van der Brom (piano), Dawie Couzijn (voice), Charlotte van der Merwe (organ), Wim Viljoen (organ) and Ton Koopman (organ). He completed a music diploma in the Netherlands. 

As a composer of sacred music, his work has been performed across Europe with the MCC Mass premiered in London in 2001.

Mr De Graaff has worked with numerous choirs, including successfully participating in international choral festivals such as the EJV in Switzerland.
